Desert

A desert is a barren area of land that is covered with sand. It
is usually very hot during day and very cool at night. Water is
hardly found in deserts. Animals like camel and rattlesnakes
live in desert.

                                                                        A camel in desert

                         Polar region and mountain

Polar region and mountains are cold places. They are covered
with snow. Animals like, polar bear, penguin, seal and walrus
                            are found in these regions.

Ocean

An ocean is the vast body of salt water that covers almost
three fourths of the earth's surface. They are the largest
habitat on the earth. Animals like whale, octopus, shark
and a large variety of fish are found in ocean.

                                                                        Whale in the ocean

                                Fresh water

Ponds, rivers, lakes, etc. are the examples of
fresh water. Fishes, frogs, tortoises and
                                salamanders live in fresh water.

Animal Body Covering

Animals have different body coverings depending on which class they belong to - like,
body of a fish is covered with scales, the body of mammals are covered with fur or hair
and so on. Their body coverings help them to live in a particular habitat. Let's read
more about them.

Scales Scales of fish

Animals like fish, snakes, crocodiles, etc. have scales on their outer
body covering. Fishes have scales that overlap each other. These
overlapping do not allow water to enter their body. Horny scales
of snakes, crocodiles etc. prevent water loss from their body.
