Gills Gills of a fish
Water animals like fish, prawns and tadpole have gills.
So they breathe through their gills. The water which
goes into their mouth is not swallowed. It passes out
again through a pair of gill-slits. The gill-slits are on
each side of its body. As water passes over the gills,
the fish takes in oxygen. The oxygen gets absorbed
into the blood of the fish.
Body Surface or Moist Skin
A frog breathes through its moist skin in water. It breathes with
lungs on land. An earthworm breathes through its moist skin.

Spiracles
Insects have spiracles like cockroach and
grasshopper breathe through tiny holes on their
body called spiracles. The spiracles lead to air
tubes. The air tubes form a network. The network
reaches every part of the body.

How Animals Eat
Like humans, animals also need food to live and survive. Food gives them energy to
grow and to stay healthy. Different animals have different feeding habits depending
on the food they eat.
Herbivores
Herbivores are animals which eat plants or plant products.
They have sharp incisor and broad molars teeth to cut and
grind their food. Cow, goat, deer, etc. are herbivores.
