Both calcium and phosphorus form the major constituents of bones and teeth and are
essential for their formation. A deficiency of calcium in the diet causes rickets and
decay of the teeth. Food items like milk, curd, almond and cheese contain calcium.
Iron is mainly required for the formation of hemoglobin which is an important
constituent of the red blood cells. Prolonged deficiency of iron in the diet causes
anemia. Food items like green leafy vegetables, beetroot, apple and carrot contain
iron.

      Make a list of food items that you eat. Also write which nutrient they contain.

Roughage and Water

Roughage, also known as fiber or bulk, is an indigestible compound that your body
can't absorb. It is found in many fruits, vegetables, salads, grains and legumes. They
are very important for our body as they help us to remove our body waste.
More than half of our body weight is water. It is an important part of our food. We
cannot live without it. It helps in digestion and absorption of the food. It also helps to
regulate the temperature and the activities of our body. We should drink plenty of
water every day.
