Fats

Fat is an essential part of our diet. They are also energy-giving food. We need fat for
our nerves, brain and skin cells, to protect vital organs in the body and to help to
control our body temperature. Our body needs a little amount of fats. Too much fats
are unhealthy for us. Food items like oil, butter and nuts are good sources of fats.

   Fats give more energy than carbohydrates.

Vitamins and Minerals

These are present in very minute amounts in different food-stuffs and are essential
for growth and health. Vitamins and minerals also protect our body from diseases and
keep us fit. They are known as protective foods. The more important minerals are
calcium, phosphorous and iron. Food items like fruits, vegetables, milk, eggs and
peanuts are good sources of vitamins and minerals.
