The Islands
Islands are the piece of land that surrounded by water. There are two groups of Islands in India
namely:-
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands and The Lakshadweep Islands
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands Andaman and Nicobar Islands
Andaman is a group of about 300 islands, of which only 26
are those in which people reside. The Nicobar is a group of
about 19 islands, of which only 12 are those in which
people reside. These islands are located in the Bay of
Bengal. The Andaman lies towards the north and the
Nicobar lies towards the south. Port Blair is the capital of
this group of islands. These islands are covered with thick
forests. The main occupations of these islands are farming
and fishing. The farmers of this region grow crops like-
rice, coconut, coffee and rubber.
The Lakshadweep Islands Lakshadweep islands contain a group of 36 islands, of
which only 10 are those in which people reside. It is the
Lakshadweep Islands smallest union territory of India. These islands are located
in the Arabian Sea. Kavaratti is the capital of this group of
islands. It is a set of beautiful coral islands which were
formed by the creatures who lived many years ago. Fishing
is an important occupation of this region. Coconut grows in
large numbers and many products are made of coconut in
the industries in these island groups.
Life in the Region Gandhinagar
Gujarat
Gujarat is a state located in the western part of India. It is
known locally as Jewel of the Western part of India.
Ahmedabad is the largest city of this state. Gandhinagar is
the capital of this state. Cotton textile and salt making
industry is famous in this state.
