Some Other Plants
Do you know that there are some plants that eat insects? Yes, that’s true! Come, let’s
read about them. These plants are known as insectivorous plants. For example, venus
flytrap and pitcher plant. These plants have modified leaves that trap insects.
The leaves of venus flytrap is like a box. They have long hair along the edges of the leaves.
When an insect touches the edges then the leaf takes in the insect and shuts down.
The leaves of pitcher plant are like a container. They also have a lid over the leaves.
When the insect sits on the leaves then it shuts down the lid and takes in the insect.
Some plants like mushroom and coral roof do not have chlorophyll. Such plants are
called non-green plants. These plants cannot make their own food. They absorb the
food from the dead plants and animals. Hence, they are also known as saprophytes.
