Types of Soil

There are many different types of soil on the planet, as every soil has a different
composition of minerals and organics, and every soil has been subjected to different
environmental constraints. Come, let's read about some of them.

Gravel
Gravel is composed of tiny stones. It is used extensively in building roads and in
making concrete.

Sand
Sand is light brown in colour. It is consist of big particles. Sand cannot hold water as
there is much spaces between their particles. Sand is mixed with cement and is used
for making buildings. It is mostly found in desert and on sea shore.

Clay

Clay is very fine particles of dirt which float in a stream or river and then sink to the
bottom, where they press on each other and stick together. When it is dry, it feels
smooth to the touch, but it becomes very sticky when wet. It is usually used for
making pots and toys.

Loam
Loams are a mixture of clay, sand, and silt, and are more fertile than other soils. It can
hold enough water and air. It contains lot of humus. So it is the best soil for growing
plants. In fact, gardeners often mix loam with other soils like sand and clay.
