A spider catches its prey with the help of its s cky
web. When an insect flies into the web, it gets
stuck. Each kind of spider makes a different kind of
web.
Why do birds build nests?
The nests help in protec ng as well as keep the eggs and nestlings warm. Though, we
usually think of nests in tree branches but all birds do not build their nest on trees.
Some birds build their nest on ground, some in bushes, while some a ach their nests
to the sides of cliffs.
Birds such as penguins, gulls and vultures build nests in rocks. Many birds such as
woodpeckers, owls and parrots build cavity nest in tree trunks.
House sparrows, crows and pigeons build cup shaped nests in branches, shrubs,
window sills or ceilings. Birds such as burrowing owls, cuckoo, ash throated flycatcher
and warbler do not build their own nest. They sue burrows and nests built by other
creatures to lay their eggs.
Birds use natural materials like grass, leaves, twigs or plant fibers to make their nests.
The birds also use man-made materials to build their nest depending on the
environment they live in. Some birds also use their own saliva and mud to bind and
hold their nests together.
