Plants do not have sense organs but they also feel the leaves of touch-me-not plant
fold up when you touch. Non-living things do not feel anything. If you throw a doll, she
 does not cry.

 Living Things Breathe
Living things need to breathe for their survival. All living things breathe air that is
present around us. They have some kind of opening through which air can enter the
body. Animals like horses, gers, cats, dogs, whales have lungs, which help in
breathing. Humans also have lungs through which they breathe. Insects such as a
cockroaches and flies breathe through holes on the surface of their bodies. A fish
 breathe though its gills.

If we keep a plant in a closed box the plant will not be able to breathe and it will soon
dry up and die. We might think that plants do not breathe because they do not have a
nose. It is true that plants do not have noses, but they breathe through very small
openings in their leaves called stomata. So, it shows that a plant also needs air to
breathe. Like us, most of the animals breathe through their nose.

Similarly, like us, animals and plants also breathe to live. Non-living things do not
 breathe.

 Living Things Need Energy
All living things need energy to survive and do ac vity. Every living thing finds a way to
gain energy and use it. We get energy from food. Food helps us to grow and stay alive.
All livings take in food with their mouth. Green plants make their own food with air,
water and sunlight. They do not need to go in search of food.
