Living
Chapter 17 And Non-Living Things
We are surrounded by a number of things. Some of them are living things while some
of them are non-living things. Our Earth is very beau ful. We see trees, beau ful
flowers, different animals, birds and other people around us. These have life in them
and hence they are all living things. We also see many more things like vehicles, soil,
water, roads, and bridges. They do not have life in them and hence they are non-living
things.
Living Things Are Different From Non-Living Things
There are some things living things can do and non-living things cannot. Can you tell
something that you can do but a tree can't do. All living things have the following
characteris cs:
Living things Move
Living things can move. All living
things move in some or the other
way. This may be obvious, such as
humans and animals that are able
to walk, or less obvious, such as
plants that have parts that move
to track the movement of the sun.
Animals move in many different
ways. Cheetahs can sprint faster
than any other animal over short
distances. It runs with a speed of
nearly 100 km/hr and takes big
strides as it runs. Animals like deer
and antelope too have strong legs
to escape from predators like cheetahs. Adult giraffes have long legs to run away with
a speed of 48km/hr and not fall prey to lions.
