Sense of smell
We get to know many things with the help of our sense of smell. With the help of our
sense of smell we can smell a dead rat in a room before we actually see it. Similarly we
get to know what is being cooked with the
sense of smell and this makes us hungry.
Actually, what we smell are ny things
called odour or smell par cles. Our sense
of smell sends signal to the brain and the
brain tells us whether the smell is good or
bad. As we breathe in, the odour par cles
enter through our nostrils. They travel up
the nose where special smelling nerve
cells are located. Our sense of smell is also
a ma er of personal choice. Some of us are allergic to certain smells. Most of us find
the smell of perfumes, flowers, and scented cleaners are very pleasant.
Differently - able people
Our world is full of people with different abili es. Some are good at singing, some are
good at drawing and pain ng beau ful pictures, some are great writer. In the same
way, some people are born with good sense of touch and smell but unfortunately
cannot see or hear well. Visually impaired people use their acute sense of touch to
read and write. They use a special system known as the Braille. Differently-able people
are just like us. We must be sensi ve to their needs and feelings.
