Hardware
Hardware represents the physical and tangible components of a computer i.e. the components of
a computer i.e. the components that can be seen and touched.
Examples of Hardware are following.
ÿ Input devices : keyboard, mouse etc.
ÿ Output devices : printer, monitor etc.
ÿ Secondary storage devices : Hard disk, CD, DVD etc.
ÿ Internal components : CPU, motherboard, RAM etc.
Relationship between Hardware and Software.
ÿ Mutually dependent. Both of them must work together, to make computer produce a
useful output.
ÿ Software cannot be utilized without supporting hardware.
ÿ Hardware, without set of programs to operate upon cannot be utilized, and is useless.
ÿ To get a particular job done on the computer, relevant software should be loaded into
the hardware.
ÿ Hardware, is a one time expense.
ÿ Software development is very expensive, and is a continuing expense.
ÿ Different software can be loaded on a hardware to run different jobs.
ÿ A software acts as an interface between the user and the hardware.
ÿ If hardware is the ‘heart’ of a computer system, then software is its ‘sou!’. Both are
complimentary to each other.
Backup Time
A computer gets all the instructions from the software to perform various tasks.
System software is a collection of programs that controls the overall operations and performance
of the computer system.
Operating system is a software that coordinate computer resources.
A program or set of programs that are especially designed to solve the specific problems of users,
are called application software.
