Plants are the greenery we see around us. They are very essential resource
for human well-being. Life cannot exist without plants. They give us air to
breathe, food to eat and wood to make paper and furniture.
Plants are living things that are made up of cells. Like humans, plants need
air, water, soil and sunlight to live and grow.
Types of Plants
There are various types of plants we see around us. Their names are Trees,
Shrubs, Herbs, Climbers and Creepers.
Tree
A tree is a woody plant. They are tall plants that
can grow to be 15 feet or higher. Trees usually
have a single stem known as trunk. There are
many branches attached to this trunk. Banyan and
neem are the two examples of tree.
Some trees can grow to around 100 metres in height.

For the Teacher Discuss with the children about various plants in the world. Also tell
them the characteristics of desert and aquatic plants.
