Nargis wondered why the garden at the back received more sunlight. Later, father
explained that it was because of the direc on of the two gardens.

“You know that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. If you stand facing the
rising sun, you stand facing east and west would be behind you. Raise your arms to
shoulder height and point your hands towards either side of your body. Your right
hand would be poin ng to the south and your le hand would be poin ng to the
north. These are the four main direc ons but there are places that fall in between
these direc ons.
To talk about these posi on we use terms such as north east, north west, south east,
and south west. The garden at the back is in the south eastern posi on and gets more
sunlight than the front garden that is located towards the north.”
