Boiling

Impure water contains various harmful germs.
By boiling, the water can be made germs free.
Boiling the water for 20 minutes kills the
germs present in it.

Sedimenta on and Decanta on Boiling water

This process is used to purify the water containing insoluble impuri es like mud, sand,

etc. In this process, water is allowed to stand in a container for a few hours. The

impuri es se le down at the bo om of container. This process in which insoluble

impuri es se le down is called sedimenta on. Then the clear water is poured off

gently in another container. This process is known as decanta on.

Filtra on

Filtra on is the most common process of
purifying the water. In this process, water is
passed through a filter paper. Impuri es are
le behind on the filter paper and clean
water is collected in a container below. This
process of removing impuri es by passing
water through filter paper is called
filtra on.
